The Mirror Head: This is the functional end of the instrument. It consists of a small, round mirror set into a stainless steel frame and attached to a thin, angled shaft. The head is typically set at about a 45-degree angle to the handle.

The mirror itself is usually made of glass with a reflective coating, not solid metal. Because it's a front-surface mirror, the reflective layer is on the top of the glass. This design is crucial in dentistry as it prevents the "ghost images" or double reflections that would occur with a standard back-surface mirror, ensuring a clear, undistorted view.

Stainless steel is the standard material for these mirrors for several practical reasons:
