Dental Stainless Steel Matrix Band with Holes
Matrix Application. Matrices are placed for interproximal restorations to aid in restoring normal contour and contact areas and to prevent extrusion of restorative materials into gingival tissues. Many types of matrix bands are available for use in pediatric dentistry.
When a tooth has a cavity on its side (a Class II restoration), one or more of its natural walls are missing. A dentist can't just "pour" the filling material into the gap, as it would flow out. The matrix band serves as a temporary wall. It is wrapped around the tooth to create a mold, holding the filling material in place while it hardens and helping to shape a proper contact point with the adjacent tooth.
Stainless Steel Material: Stainless steel is the traditional and common material for these bands because it is strong, can be sterilized for reuse, and provides a smooth surface for the final restoration.
The Function of the Holes: The holes are a design feature for precision. Placing a tiny metal band deep between two teeth can be tricky. Dentists use special pin tweezers that fit into these holes, giving them a secure grip to place and remove the band without slipping.
